Quality Literature
The Gingerbread Guild
selects works that emphasize humanitarian values
and possess an international character.
The Guild supports literacy by animating
interactive workshops and by donating books to
those children living in difficult, fragile environments.
The Guild distributes new works by approved
authors recognized for their creative talent and
social engagement. The text and illustrations
of these works cultivate a sense of wonderment
in the reader, a prime source of creativity and
learning.
Selection Criteria
Whatever the type of story favoured
by the author, the work must be both rich and
accessible and propose to the reader numerous
occasions which nourish the imagination and enrich
knowledge. The young reader should be made sensitive
to images that inspire and that contain no form
of sexism, racism or intolerance.
The Guild publishes
within its quarterly bulletin The Gingerbread
Slice
a column entitled «Gingerbread the bookworm».
The column recommends a number
of carefully selected books chosen for their literary,
educational and social qualities. They will please
adult and child reading together or a child reading
alone. They are rated on the basis of the child's
reading maturity rather than his age.
