Fair Trade, born 50 years ago in Africa and Europe in order to fight the iniquity of low market prices for the African producer highly dependent on unscrupulous intermediaries, Fair Trade is now an important international system of doing business based on principles of respect, equity and transparency.
Every aspect of the Fair Trade system must get a Certification, under strict conditions, from Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International (FLO), which certifies and monitors producer groups, and registers importers of Fair Trade Certified products.
